Nolan grew up in Winchester, Virginia and was ready for a change when he was accepted into Virginia Tech’s engineering program. Through his time at Virginia Tech, he gained invaluable experience learning to work and coordinate with countless students and professors. This propelled him to graduate with a focus in Land Development and with a broader emphasis on Hydrology and GIS. He enjoyed filling his time doing outreach with his church, playing a variety of intramural sports with his friends and competing with the Virginia Tech Steel Bridge Team.
Nolan was put in contact with Barret Hagen and accepted a summer internship with Hagen Engineering, PA. While interning with Hagen Engineering, Nolan gained valuable insight as to how the industry worked and what it took to become successful in this fast pace and performance driven environment. He helped developed base maps, layouts, and preliminary design work that allowed for an influx of work and productivity for the company. Not only did Nolan enjoy the line of work that Hagen Engineering offered, but seeing the quality of work that was produced and the relationships that were formed with clients largely influenced his decision to accept a full time position at Hagen Engineering.
Nolan is committed to serving the client’s needs by working closely with them to produce a product that is, practical, cost-efficient, and aesthetically pleasing. This approach gives each client personal attention and a product that makes them want to keep coming back to Hagen Engineering for future endeavors.

Education: Virginia Tech, B.S. Civil Engineering 2016.
Tim grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia amidst a sea of UVA fans, but made the smart decision and went to Virginia Tech instead. Through his time at Virginia Tech he maintained a focus in Land Development Design and Water Resources with a minor in Green Engineering. He participated in a wide range of activities while at Virginia Tech such as playing four years of Club Tennis, participating in the Virginia Tech American Society of Civil Engineers, and competing with the Virginia Tech Concrete Canoe Team (yes, it was really made of concrete).
During his last two summers at Virginia Tech, Tim obtained invaluable practical experience through his project management internship with Trident Construction in which he helped oversee the construction of a 7 story Residence Inn Hotel in Charlottesville, Virginia. During this internship, Tim helped to manage subcontractors, update project scheduling, process material purchase orders and perform Civil site survey work. This experience taught Tim the values of hard work and the importance of seeing a job all the way through.
While at Hagen Engineering, Tim hopes to work closely with all Clients to provide a product that is economical, environmentally conscious and specially tailored towards each client’s needs.

Licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Arkansas
Barret started his career in the construction industry working in the Family plumbing business in Florida. By 8 years of age he was spending every summer on a plumbing crew. Pay was not great and contributions to the jobs were minimal in the beginning, but a great work ethic was obtained. He knew that success was generated by a lot of hard work.
After college, Barret worked in Atlanta for Haines Gipson and Associates and gained invaluable design experience. It was the early 2000s and the retail industry was booming in the South. Although it was sad to leave Haines Gipson in 2003, new opportunities were waiting in North Carolina.
From 2003 to 2010, Barret worked for two companies in the Triad area. One was an engineering design firm, and the second provided design and construction management. By observing exactly how designs were being built, the years spent in construction management provided unique and valuable experience. Most of the projects that he managed were designed by other engineers but he was afforded opportunities to witness what worked best in the field and what fell short of the best possible results. The training and inestimable experience gained through those years were instrumental in what ultimately led to the beginning of Hagen Engineering.
Barret is confident that he can provide to his Clients a fresh perspective. He has acquired the necessary knowledge regarding the design, permitting, and site work construction process and understands the developer’s perspective. Barret is involved in every project at Hagen Engineering to promote the most excellent product we can provide.
